Hold a birthday party for America and they will come.
Well.... maybe.
The much-ballyhooed Trump event called the Great American Fair is experiencing challenges before the June 25th event. At least six states publicly said they won't participate and three others remain uncommitted.
The state holdouts come days after a wave of musical acts abandoned the festival, with performers including Martina McBride and Bret Michaels saying they had been misled about the event's political ties.
A livid Trump announced he would open the fair with "the Greatest Rally, EVER!"
Officials from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Oregon told news outlets that they will not send official delegations to the 16-day fair on the National Mall. Three other states, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington are expected to opt out.
The holdouts announced they are focusing their limited resources on the non-partisan America 250 commission events instead.
I'd like to clear up any confusion about the two groups who are promoting America's 250th Birthday. One group, America 250, is a bipartisan commission Congress created a decade ago.
The other group, Freedom 250, consists of Trump loyalists who were willing to do anything to make money for their dear leader and to glorify him.
The Trump-created entity is responsible for cringy spectacles, like having a UFC cage match on the White House lawn. The regime has a reputation for ridiculous money-making events supported by donations from Trump's billionaire buddies.
It's sad to see how divisive America's 250th birthday has become.
At a time, when all Americans should be united in this grand celebration the cracks in our democracy are damning.
What should be a time of patriotism and pride is deteriorating daily as Trump pushes his authoritarian agenda on America.
As it Stands, an old proverb seems timely today; "United We Stand, Divided We Fall."
