Say What? Obama gets Peace prize

Don’t you have to do something to win the Nobel Peace prize? I don’t get it. What is this? A makeup for losing the Olympics?

OSLO – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

I can't quite wrap my mind around this...I agree--don't you have to do something first?

I think that the rest of the world watched closely as we prepared to choose George W. Bush's predecessor.
They might have been thinking, this guy didn't throw dirt and do the normal dirty tricks associated with most major U.S. Presidential candidates.
He ran on a positive platform and won the prize.
Obama's rise to the top gave the rest of the world the same hope for change that he gave us.
I think the prize was for the way Obama ran his inclusive, positive and respectable campaign.
He won on that platform and didn't stoop to the lies and attacks that most presidential candidates stoop to to get elected.
The country elected him and showed the rest of the world that the George Bush, Dick Cheney mentality, is not something we endorse.
Now it is up to Obama to live up to the award. Will he stop the war in Iraq? Will he close Guantanamo Bay Prison?
Will he be a champion of the people or the corporations and militarized industrial complex?
Time will tell. He hasn't been in office for a year yet. I hope for best and prepare for the worst.
