Trump still believed cryptocurrency would negatively impact the dollar in 2021 (after losing his first attempt to get re-elected) and told Fox News that it "seemed like a scam." He also strongly emphasized that "he wanted the U.S. dollar to remain the "currency of the world."
But then something strange, and vile happened.
In September 2024, Trump announced that his sons would enter the cryptocurrency marketplace with a new venture called World Liberty Financial (WLF). The new company struggled and was losing money until Trump got re-elected in November. Then it suddenly soared in value.
To assure a friendly and profitable relationship the crypto industry became the largest corporate donor - $238 million - to the Trump inauguration, money Trump was free to spend as he wished.
A Trump business entity owns 60 percent of WLF and is entitled to 75% of all revenue from bitcoin sales. By December 2025, the Trump's had profited $1 billion on proceeds, while holding $3 billion worth of unsold tokens.
To ensure ongoing profits the Trump regime took a series of crypto-friendly actions and decisions. They reduced crypto regulation and dropped investigations into crypto firms and crypto crime. The fix was in.
A House Judiciary Committee report determined that the cryptocurrency policies were in fact used to benefit Trump and his family. The Trump regime ignored it and plowed ahead with more digital assets like meme coins.
The grift goes on. On Wednesday Trump met with his tech bros in the White House, which just happened to coincide with US financial regulators advancing new frameworks for digital assets.
In a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll the majority of Americans believe Trump and his family are illegally profiting from the whole crypto industry. Yet all they can do is watch the blatant corruption mocking the Constitution like hostages in a bad dream.
The irony is voters in the last election were warned about Project 2025, a map to destroy our freedoms and a path to profit for MAGA loyalists. However, they chose to shoot themselves in the foot.
As it Stands, hopefully Democrats winning the midterms will put obstacles in Trump's destructive drive to destroy our Democracy.
