Southwest passengers recount harrowing ordeal as hole opens in plane fuselage

Southwest flight

I’ve never never been a fan of flying – see

“Kauai or Bust”

Excerpt:

“I was never enthralled with the concept of hurtling through Earth’s atmosphere at 20,000 or 30,000 feet above the ground. Call me silly or a coward. It was a plane that took me to that dirty little war in Vietnam, and I’d never forgive that airline if I could just remember which one it was!” Editor’s Note: scroll down stories until you get to my column.

Meanwhile…

“Passengers described a harrowing journey Friday when a Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix to Sacramento suffered a rapid loss of cabin pressure, and the crew found a hole in the top of the fuselage.”

Glad the plane landed and the incident turned out well for the most part.

Unfortunately, it's my understanding this isn't the first time. Not only has something similar happened to Southwest previously, but they were fined around $7.5 million for putting planes into service before adequate fuselage inspections were done. Read about this yesterday but don't have the link. Hopefully they'll get their act together and ensure safety beyond a doubt, now. First time I've seen the photo of the tear, thank you.

Does this means some open air sale discounts are in order? We love cheap sails. Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I'm glad everything turned out okay too.

If I was on that flight, it would been the last time I ever flew anywhere... I'm just saying.

Must have been a very tense and scary way to a safe landing. A hole that large can grow bigger and more deadly in minutes. I am so glad that the plane landed safely.
