Just when I thought the 113th Congress was going to play the Grinch this holiday season and not pass a budget…a miracle happened.
Accused of being the least productive Congress in modern history and viewed by a majority of Americans of being “one of the worst” Congresses ever, the House of Representatives did something amazing:
It passed the bipartisan Ryan-Murray budget deal. Wow! The vote was 332-94, an overwhelming majority.
I don’t know if the spirit of Christmas descended upon John Boehner and he got the Scrooge treatment or what. But the ease with which the budget was approved was unexpected and a delightful gift to the American people this holiday season. Yo! Ho! Ho!

Fact-checking organization Politifact has named their “Lie of the Year,” and it’s bad news for the White House and the Affordable Care Act.
President Barack Obama’s often-repeated assertion that “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” won the ignominious honor for 2013, the group announced.
“So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama’s breezy assurances were wrong,” editor Angie Drobnic Holan wrote.
“Boiling down the complicated health care law to a soundbite proved treacherous, even for its promoter-in-chief. Obama and his team made matters worse, suggesting they had been misunderstood all along,” she said.
She also added that readers in an online poll “overwhelmingly” agreed with the decision.
